The Trump administration has launched America.gov, a new AI-powered platform designed to simplify access to federal government services for Americans. Unveiled during a summit in Washington, D.C., the site aims to consolidate 29,000 federal websites into a single, user-friendly interface.
Joe Gebbia, the Chief Design Officer of the United States and co-founder of Airbnb, unveiled the site with a video trailer showcasing its capabilities, including services such as National Park access, Medicare, passport applications, and name changes. Gebbia demonstrated how easy it is to complete tasks like changing a married woman’s maiden name, which he said would typically take weeks and involve multiple filings across different agencies.
“You’ll be able to change your name right on the platform,” Gebbia said, guiding through the process. “This would have taken weeks of your time, multiple filings, cutting across different agencies’ websites. That’s if you even knew where to start.” He likened the site to a “good hotel concierge,” emphasizing its ease of use and efficiency.
America.gov uses artificial intelligence to provide answers from official government sources, ensuring users receive accurate and up-to-date information. The site is free to use, does not include ads, and prioritizes user privacy. Additional features are expected to be added in 2027, allowing users to complete forms, track progress, and organize information in one place.
Notably, this initiative is one of the Democrats’ few arguments against voter ID requirements, as they claim married women could be disenfranchised by the SAVE America Act. The site is positioned as a tool to improve government efficiency and accessibility for all Americans.
