White House Deputy Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is under increasing pressure to resign or be fired by President Donald Trump following the Republicans’ devastating midterm losses. The fallout comes as Wiles is blamed for the failures in Trump’s agenda, staffing, and election strategy.
Trump Blames Staff and Strategy
Trump admitted that his endorsement of candidates, which Wiles was reportedly leading, resulted in his trying to “get people in that were people that, frankly, let’s say that I didn’t get along with.” During an election night interview, he noted that his supporters “didn’t like the candidates, and some of the candidates that I endorsed fought me, and they didn’t like that they fought me.”
Internal Criticism and Calls for Resignation
Former Trump White House press office staffer Caroline Sunshine called for Wiles to resign immediately, citing her failure to govern properly and place the right staff in the administration for messaging. “She needs to resign,” Sunshine said, adding that the current trajectory “can’t win in 2028 if we keep going down this current lane.”
Staff and Strategy Failures
Senior administration officials and staffers slammed Wiles for promising midterm wins and being “delusional right until the very end.” One source in the administration suggested that if Trump is smart, he will “purge everyone tomorrow to save his legacy.”
Replacement Rumors and Dismissals
Wiles previously came under fire with reports that Trump would replace her before the midterm elections. Trump had reportedly floated several potential successors, including Stephen Miller, Randy Levine, Steve Witkoff, Bill Pulte, and Kevin McCarthy. However, the White House dismissed these reports as “TOTAL FAKE NEWS.”
