NJ Police Remove Ball Python From Woman’s Car Grille
A ball python was found in a woman’s car grille in New Jersey, prompting police intervention and eventual relocation to an animal shelter.

A New Jersey couple discovered a ball python hiding in their car grille after returning from a wheel alignment, prompting them to call the police for help. The incident occurred on Sept. 14 on Oakland Avenue in Franklin Township. Aiyana Hudson, the woman involved, was panicking upon finding the snake, while her boyfriend tried to calm her down.
“He told me, ‘Stop — you’re acting like someone died,’ and I was like, ‘It’s a snake,’ and he’s like, ‘Let’s go look at this,'” Hudson told ABC7.
Hudson admitted they were unsure who to contact for assistance and eventually reached out to the police. Officer Lisseth Villacis explained that animal control was unavailable, as they only handle domesticated animals.
“We tried getting animal control out there, and they’re like, they only deal with domesticated animals. And we’re like, oh shoot. OK. So, we’re kind of like the last resort,” Villacis said.
Police Efforts and Snake Removal
Body camera footage captured the officers examining the car and attempting to free the snake. They spent about 20 minutes trying to remove the reptile from the car.
“We were just like, ‘OK, he’s being brave. I’m being brave. We got this. Let’s just try to take it out,'” Villacis said.
The Franklin Township Police Department confirmed they sought help from animal control but were unsuccessful. The snake, identified as a 3-foot ball python, was eventually moved to an animal shelter and is expected to be available for adoption.
“I was just really happy that it didn’t, like, pop its head through the AC vent when I was driving or come in through the steering wheel,” Hudson said. “I want to let you know my car would have been lit on fire, and we’d be calling the fire department at that point.”
