A bison rammed a pickup truck in Yellowstone National Park at around 2:45 a.m., leaving the driver shaken and the vehicle damaged. The incident, captured on video, shows the moment Kyle Weber, a seasonal mechanic, encountered the large animal on a dark, two-lane road.

According to the footage, Weber was driving through the park when his headlights caught sight of a bison standing in the middle of the road. He stopped his Ford Ranger and waited as the bison remained still for several seconds before charging toward the vehicle. The bison collided with the front of the truck, pushing it back at least a foot and a half before trotting off in the opposite direction.

“The bison do own the roads in Yellowstone,” said Facebook user Stephen Borgmier, sharing the video. “A friend of mine was between Mud Volcano and Fishing Bridge and he found out the hard way.” The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of wildlife in the park, where bison are known to roam freely.

Weber described the experience as both frightening and surprising. “I definitely got jolted in that thing,” he said. “I knew they hit hard, but that was pretty rough.” Despite the damage, Weber noted that the truck’s headlights and other systems remained functional, though he admitted the incident was “not as bad as it could have been, but still not great.”

The incident comes months after a grandfather, Carl Isom-McDaniel, was thrown eight feet in the air by a bull bison in the same park. Though he suffered broken bones, he laughed it off, showing the unpredictable and sometimes dangerous nature of wildlife encounters in Yellowstone.

Professional photographer Mike MacLeod, who captured the grandfather’s attack, said, “He was in a lot of pain with his leg, and otherwise he was conscious the whole time, in good spirits, joking.” These events underscore the risks and challenges of navigating Yellowstone National Park, where wildlife is both a natural wonder and a potential hazard.
