Actor Chris Pratt has shared how his faith was deeply impacted by his recent work on a Vatican documentary, which focused on the tomb of St. Peter. The film, titled Pétros Ení — Discovering the Origins, explores the history and archaeological discoveries surrounding the site, marking the 400th anniversary of the consecration of St. Peter’s Basilica.
Documentary Explores St. Peter’s Legacy
Produced by AF Films in collaboration with Vatican Media and the Fabric of St. Peter, the documentary features Pratt and Pope Leo XIV examining the historical significance of the site. IMAX drone cameras captured the Vatican’s historic surroundings, offering a visually stunning look at the ancient tomb.
“It was really profound to be encountering the remains of one of Jesus’ apostles,” Pratt told Variety during a red carpet interview while promoting the second season of his show, The Terminal List. “[Jesus] said that the church will be built upon that rock. And Simon Peter is the rock. And so, to be there and to see the church some 2,000 years later, and see the prophecy of his words came true, it just was really meaningful to me,” he added.
Pratt’s Growing Faith and Public Stance
Pratt, best known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, has become more outspoken about his Christian faith in recent years. He is married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, a Catholic, and regularly attends Mass with her while raising their children in the Church. The actor has also supported veterans and faced criticism from liberals over his perceived conservative views, though he has generally stayed out of politics.
Pratt previously told Vatican News that the film helped him deepen his faith. “What I would like audiences to understand about Peter after watching this documentary is that he was an imperfect man,” he said. “He was a weak man. He was a human being. And I believe we are all broken, imperfect, and weak. But his strength lies in the grace of Jesus and his faith in God. With that strength, through grace and faith, you can be incredibly strong.”
Collaboration with the Vatican
“It was an incredible honor to collaborate with Pope Leo and the Vatican on this project. The story of St. Peter is foundational to the Christian faith, and I am deeply grateful for the trust and access I was given to bring his legacy to the screen,” Pratt said. The documentary is slated for a U.S. theatrical release in February 2027.
