Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) praised President Donald Trump’s recent address to the United Nations General Assembly, calling it a clear demonstration of the ‘America First’ doctrine. Speaking on Breitbart News, McCormick highlighted the president’s consistent actions in foreign policy, including his firm stance against adversaries like Venezuela, Iran, and China.
America First Doctrine in Action
McCormick emphasized that Trump’s words have been matched by action, stating that the president has consistently advocated for ‘peace through strength’ and America’s leadership on the global stage. The senator credited Trump for drawing clear lines against adversaries, particularly in the case of Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the security measures taken in Venezuela.
Despite the strong stance, McCormick noted that Trump’s approach still allows for diplomacy, but only on terms that serve American interests. The senator said, ‘When he says peace through strength, he really wants peace, and he’s looking for every opportunity to have alliances and great relationships with leaders around the world, but it has to be on terms that advance America’s interest.’
Personal Experience at the U.N.
Mccormick, who watched the speech in person as part of the Senate delegation, said he believed Trump delivered a strong message. ‘I was in the room. I was there as part of the delegation. I represented the Senate,’ he said. ‘And I thought he did a great job.’
Trump’s address on September 22 emphasized that ‘America is back’ and rejected global governance, stating there would be no global taxes while he is president. He also addressed issues such as illegal immigration and artificial intelligence, rejecting any ‘globalist scheme of control’ over the latter.
Broader Foreign Policy Outlook
McCormick’s comments align with a broader narrative of American leadership and assertiveness in international affairs. His remarks reflect a pattern of support for Trump’s approach, which has been a key theme in the Republican Party’s foreign policy discourse.
