In a shocking incident in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, a mother stabbed her two children 50 times, leaving them severely injured. Taylor Gosnell, 32, is currently under evaluation for mental health issues and faces two counts of attempted murder. The children, aged three and six, were found covered in blood with televisions and mirrors destroyed, leaving shattered glass and debris throughout the home.
Children’s Condition and Medical Response
The six-year-old boy is in particularly horrifying condition, with doctors stating he may face the possibility of amputation of fingers and possibly an arm due to the severity of the injuries. The children were found home alone after the six-year-old called his grandmother, who then called police with an ex-boyfriend of Gosnell. The children are currently at Greenville Children’s Hospital in protective custody awaiting more surgeries.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the children early in the morning, still dark, and estimated approximately 50 stab wounds, some of which were so deep they cut to the bone. Gosnell attempted to flee at one point from the ambulance but was subsequently handcuffed to her stretcher. Authorities have not granted her bond, and she is facing two counts of attempted murder.
The sheriff’s office is determined to ensure justice for the children, with Deputy Graham McLellan stating, “We’re going to do our job. Our deputies are going to go out there and do what they have to do to make sure that there’s justice delivered for these children.”
Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigation
Gosnell’s neighbor, Cheryl Bryant, expressed shock and concern, hoping the children would be placed in a safe environment. Authorities have not yet revealed any motive for the attack, though doctors cannot yet confirm the permanence of the children’s injuries.
