Manhattan neurologist Dr. Tariq Lamki has been indicted for sexually abusing two female patients at his practice, according to prosecutors. The 51-year-old doctor, based at 14th Street Medical Arts near Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village, is accused of committing the acts in August and September 2026.
Sexual Abuse Allegations During Medical Appointments
Prosecutors claim Lamki sexually abused the first patient on August 25, 2026, and the second on September 2, 2026. The alleged abuse occurred in a closed-door exam room under the pretense of providing massages. The first victim, a 32-year-old woman, reported that Lamki touched her private parts before she overpowered him and sat up. The second victim, a 23-year-old woman, was allegedly massaged and inappropriately touched by Lamki, who restrained her and grabbed her breasts. Prosecutors stated that the abuse ended when the doctor moved the victim upright and suggested using a ‘vaginal wand’ to relieve neurological pain.
Victim’s Allegations and Legal Response
The alleged victim reportedly recorded the interaction, which prosecutors have used as part of the case. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg condemned the abuse, stating, ‘A doctor’s appointment should never end in sexual abuse.’ He urged anyone who has been assaulted by a doctor to contact the Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau at 212-335-4308.
Lamki, who described himself as a ‘highly trained and experienced neurologist’ on his practice’s website, pleaded not guilty to the charges. His bail was set at $25,000 by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Cori Weston. The charges include two counts each of first-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, and third-degree sexual abuse.
Medical Profession’s Responsibility
Neurologists are responsible for diagnosing and treating diseases affecting the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The case highlights the critical need for accountability within the medical profession and underscores the importance of protecting patients from abuse in clinical settings.
