Following the recent midterm elections, where Democrats gained control of both the House and Senate, Secretary of State Marco Rubio took to the public stage to reaffirm President Donald Trump’s stance on Iran. Rubio emphasized that Trump was elected to make difficult decisions, even when those choices did not serve his political interests.

Rubio, who serves as both National Security Adviser and State Department Secretary, began his remarks with a light-hearted comment about his multiple roles within the Trump administration. He acknowledged the impact of the midterm results but attributed some of the losses to Trump’s willingness to take on tough issues, such as the Iran nuclear program.

“I see firsthand that this is a man who wakes up every morning with one thing as a priority: you,” Rubio said. “Our country and its future. The most important thing a president can do for a country is to keep it safe, and there are people around the world that want to destroy it. They want to destroy our country, they want to destroy our way of life.”

Rubio continued by highlighting Trump’s decision to address Iran’s nuclear ambitions, a move he said was not easy. “He confronted it because what Iran wants to do is not just destroy our country and to destroy our way of life, and threaten our children — we cannot live in a world in which the most radical terroristic regime on the planet possesses a weapon of mass destruction.”

Rubio concluded by expressing deep gratitude for Trump’s leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to the administration. “And he did it for you. Not for him, not for anybody else — he did it for you and for our country, and for that we, our children, and children not yet born owe a sense, a deep sense of gratitude.”

Despite Trump’s strong stance on Iran, the midterm results suggest a shift in public opinion. Democrats, who won control of Congress, have focused on issues like economic affordability and ending the Iran conflict. However, many have also signaled a desire to investigate past Trump administration figures, raising concerns about political accountability and the future of U.S. foreign policy.
