Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele warns Haitian gangs of severe retaliation after four technicians are kidnapped.

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele has issued a stark warning to Haitian gangs following the kidnapping of four Salvadoran aviation technicians. The incident, which occurred after an ambush in Croix-des-Bouquets, has prompted Bukele to declare a military operation to secure the hostages’ safe return.
Hostages in a Peaceful Neighborhood
The four technicians, described by Bukele as ‘non-combatants,’ were part of the United Nations-backed international Gang Suppression Force (GSF) operating in Haiti. The ambush, which took place in a once-peaceful area of Port-au-Prince, marked the first significant attack on the GSF by local gangs.
Threat of Retaliation
In a message posted on X in Haitian Creole, Bukele emphasized that the kidnapped men were not involved in combat and were solely focused on medical evacuations and life-saving operations. He vowed to bring them home alive, warning that the gangs would face severe consequences if they did not comply.
‘Today’s attack is nothing compared to what is coming if we do not get all four hostages back alive,’ Bukele stated. ‘We have already finished with the gangs in El Salvador, and we can finish with you too.’ The president stressed that the decision to avoid further escalation rested with the gangs.
International Support and Response
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz pledged support for the rescue mission, condemning the attack as a ‘cowardly’ act. ‘If you think you’re going to intimidate this coalition into retreat, you have made a terrible mistake,’ he said.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of international peacekeeping efforts in Haiti, where gang violence has been escalating. While the Salvadoran military has launched a rescue operation, the situation remains tense as both sides await the outcome of the standoff.
