Authorities in Texas have charged a 37-year-old woman with the heinous crime of taking a child under 14 to an alleged pedophile doctor for sexual assault in exchange for prescription medication. Alicia Evonne Sanchez, also known as Alicia Evonne Seguin, was arrested by Smith’s County Sheriff deputies on Wednesday and accused of bringing the child to Dr. Kenneth Donald Haygood, 56, at his practice in Tyler, Texas, multiple times.
Repeated Sexual Assaults and Prescription Fraud
According to reports, Sanchez allegedly took the child to Haygood at least ten times, staying in the room during the alleged sexual acts. The child reportedly cried and begged for Haygood to stop, but was told, “This is what doctors do.” The doctor, in turn, allegedly supplied Sanchez with the prescription stimulant Adderall, which was placed in a clear baggie. Authorities stated that Sanchez told the child the pills were “for people who couldn’t get them from their doctor.”
Legal Consequences and Sentencing Disparities
While the doctor, Dr. Haygood, is currently serving an eight-year prison sentence for sex crimes after a plea deal, Sanchez faces a potential life sentence if convicted of “continuous sexual assault of a child under 14.” The disparity in sentencing has sparked debate, with prosecutors acknowledging that Haygood “probably deserved more” than eight years, but citing the need to spare victims from public testimony.
Case Details and Ongoing Investigation
Police have not disclosed Sanchez’s relationship to the child or the victim’s gender. Sanchez is being held on a $3 million bond. The case has drawn significant public attention due to the severity of the alleged crimes and the legal consequences faced by the accused. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges in addressing child sexual abuse and the justice system’s response to such crimes.
