He expressed hope that the statue would find a nice and wonderful place in Beijing.
Trump also gave Xi a brief tour of the White House ballroom, which is still under construction. “As a special treat in honor of President Xi and Madame Peng, I’d like to invite everyone in the room to visit through that beautiful curtain in the back door,” he said. “It’s all lit up and it looks beautiful.” The president noted that Xi and Peng would be the first to step foot on the construction site, which he described as clean and sparkling.
The gift was part of a three-day visit by Xi to Washington, during which Trump and Xi held talks at the White House earlier in the day. The state dinner in the East Room of the White House was also attended by senior officials and several prominent U.S. business and technology leaders.
