U.S. Diplomat Walks Out During Iran’s U.N. Speech

During a tense session at the United Nations General Assembly, a U.S. diplomat walked out as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered a speech accusing the United States and Israel of terrorism and claiming Iran has only acted in self-defense.
Audible boos erupted from the crowd as the emcee announced Pezeshkian’s impending speech, setting a tense tone before the Iranian president took the podium. Pezeshkian was delivering his prepared remarks when he accused the U.S. and Israel of attacking Iranian scientists, civilians, and infrastructure.
Accusations of Aggression and Self-Defense
“Those who are terrorists, and train and protect terrorists, describe us as such. We have only defended ourselves. We are not terrorists,” Pezeshkian said as the U.S. diplomat walked out of the chamber.
Pezeshkian continued his attack on the United States and Israel after the diplomat’s departure, claiming that Iran had been the victim of aggression and insisting that Tehran had not targeted civilians.
Comments on Gaza and Nuclear Program
“America and Israel attacked us equipped with the latest technology and weapon systems, and our people stood steadfast,” Pezeshkian said. “Yes, they did hit us, but we did not bend the knee, we did not bow our head.”
He accused the United States and Israel of targeting Iranian universities, hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure, while also accusing Israel of committing “genocide” in Gaza.
Response to Trump and Nuclear Rights
Pezeshkian responded to President Donald Trump’s earlier U.N. address by claiming Iran’s nuclear program is intended to provide energy and advance the country rather than produce weapons.
“We seek energy for progress, not to threaten societies with weapons,” Pezeshkian said. “For our sick people, it’s cure and treatment. For the agricultural sector, it’s food security. For industries, advancement and progress. And supply of electrical energy.”
Pezeshkian then rejected any effort to limit Iran’s access to peaceful nuclear technology, saying Tehran would not surrender what he called its inherent right.
