President Donald Trump is set to honor the nation’s first responders at a Rose Garden luncheon on Thursday, with representatives from over a dozen major firefighter and law enforcement organizations in attendance. The event marks a key moment for the administration as it seeks to highlight Trump’s tough stance on crime in the lead-up to the midterms.

First Responder Community Represented

The guest list includes members from the International Association of Fire Fighters, the National Volunteer Fire Council, and various police and sheriffs’ groups such as the Fraternal Order of Police, the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), the National Sheriffs’ Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Federal officers from the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association and the National Border Patrol Council are also expected to attend.

The NAPO represents at least 1,000 police units and associations, with over 241,000 law enforcement officers sworn in under its banner. The White House has emphasized that the event underscores its commitment to supporting first responders, a key part of Trump’s policy agenda.

Crime Policy and Midterm Messaging

The luncheon comes as the White House aims to bolster Trump’s crime policy narrative, especially with the midterms approaching. A White House spokesperson highlighted the administration’s support for law enforcement and first responders, noting that Trump has empowered them to perform their duties and provided resources to restore order.

“Unlike Defund-the-Police Democrats, President Trump will always stand with the heroes in law enforcement, fire fighters, and first responders who put their lives on the line to deliver safer American neighborhoods and save American lives,” the spokesperson said. The event also underscores Trump’s focus on cleaning up America’s cities, which he has made a central part of his second term agenda.

Crime-Focused Initiatives

During his second term, Trump has prioritized urban crime reduction, directing the Department of Justice to seek capital punishment for those who murder police officers and ending cashless bail. In Washington, D.C., a task force was launched to address the city’s crime issues, with the National Guard deployed to the capital and later to other cities. A similar task force was also established in Memphis.

Trump has previously hosted police officers in the Rose Garden for Police Week, reinforcing his commitment to law enforcement. The event on Thursday is expected to include a range of cabinet officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Border Czar Tom Homan, and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
