A 90-year-old astrophysics professor was violently shoved off a New York City subway, leaving him with broken bones and requiring a hip replacement. Dr. C.G. Wang was forcibly pushed off a southbound F-train, sustaining serious injuries that have left him in the hospital for weeks.
Incident Details and Medical Condition
According to police, Dr. Wang was in stable condition when transported to NYU Langone Tisch Hospital. The incident occurred on October 6th around 1PM at the Lexington Avenue and East 53rd Street station. Dr. Wang had made the journey numerous times before and had intended to exit through the door in front of the escalator.
Dr. Wang explained that he politely asked a man to move so he could get off the train. The man stepped aside, and the door opened. However, he was pushed so hard that he flew out of the train. The force of the shove broke several of his bones and left him needing a hip replacement.
Police Investigation and Suspect Description
Authorities are actively seeking the suspect, who fled the scene. The NYPD released a surveillance photo of the suspect, describing him as a black man in his 40s or 50s, wearing a black jacket and a black baseball cap, with a medium build. The suspect’s identity remains unknown, and police are appealing for public assistance in locating him.
Despite his advanced age, Dr. Wang was living independently and commuting to an office for research on a regular basis. His experience with the subway system did not prevent the violent incident, which has left him in severe medical distress.
