Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been spending over $50,000 on luxury hotel stays during her midterm campaign, according to recent filings. The congresswoman, known as the ‘champagne communist,’ has been rallying left-wing supporters against the wealthy while traveling in style.
Expensive Stays Across the Country
Federal Election Commission records reveal that Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign spent $47,000 on 45 hotel charges since April. These include a $5,044 bill at The Memphian in Memphis, a 4-star hotel with spa services and an extravagant rooftop bar. Other expensive stays include $1,599 and $2,694 at The Candler Hotel in Atlanta, a historic landmark high-rise with an acclaimed restaurant, and $2,274 at The Talbott in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood.
The Post also cited expensive stays at Thompson Central Park and Hyatt Seville NoMad in Manhattan, both rated as luxury-tier properties. Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign may have included multiple stays for her team, according to the report.
Republican Criticism and Donor Money
The revelations have drawn criticism from Republican candidates. Anthony Constantino, a businessman running for office in New York, accused Ocasio-Cortez of living off other people’s money. He called her a ‘con artist,’ stating, ‘All Democrats want to do is take donor money and buy nice things for themselves.’
Joseph Hernandez, a GOP state comptroller candidate, echoed similar sentiments, calling Ocasio-Cortez a ‘champagne communist.’ He described his experience growing up in a communist country, where leaders lived like kings while others waited in line for bread.
Other Luxury Expenses
Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign also spent $1,791 for a Queens-based driving service, Golden Class Limo, and $659 for a Northern Virginia-based car service, Singh Car Service, according to filings reviewed by the outlet.
Despite the lavish spending, Ocasio-Cortez has raised over $37 million this year for her congressional campaign, including $24 million from donors who gave under $200. Her high-profile popularity has allowed her to boost other Democratic candidates for the November midterms while polling as a viable potential candidate for president in 2028.
