Ed Sheeran Cancels Concerts Amid Tour Drama

Ed Sheeran has canceled his scheduled concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, this weekend due to an impending nor’easter, according to a representative for Robert Kraft, the stadium’s owner. The decision was made to prioritize the safety of fans, staff, and all involved in the events.

Sheeran was set to perform on Friday and Saturday at the venue, which is also home to the New England Patriots. The rep for Kraft stated that stadium and tour management, along with public safety officials, had been closely monitoring the weather forecast for the past week and decided to cancel the shows due to severe weather conditions.

The cancellation comes amid a turbulent period for the tour. Macklemore, who was previously scheduled as Sheeran’s opening act, was dropped from the tour after he shouted “Free Palestine” and showed footage from Gaza during a performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Kraft cited the performance, along with Macklemore’s “broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery,” as reasons for barring him from Gillette Stadium.

Macklemore has since criticized Kraft, a Jewish man, for orchestrating his removal from the tour and criticized his friend’s “I don’t take sides” stance. The rapper has also announced a “Free Palestine” tour for next month.

Sheeran, who has continued performing since the drama began, issued a tearful apology to fans last weekend in Philadelphia. He admitted that the situation had placed him at the center of a passionate debate about freedom of speech and the complex political issue of Israel.

Despite the controversy, Sheeran has chosen to continue the tour, stating that “If this tour ends, love doesn’t win.” He also reflected on the impact of the situation, saying, “In these situations, you really find out who your friends are.”

While some fans may be skeptical about the weekend’s cancellations, the focus will be on whether the tour continues after that. According to the official Loop Tour site, Sheeran is scheduled to perform in Atlanta on October 3, followed by six more shows, with the tour set to conclude in Tampa on November 7.
