HOUSTON, Texas — A targeted federal immigration enforcement operation turned into a high-speed chase and vehicle collision in Harris County, Texas, after a multiple-time deported illegal alien fled federal agents. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, when ICE officers attempted to arrest Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, a Mexican national with a history of criminal behavior.
Background on the Fugitive
Mendoza-Cervantes, a public safety threat, has a documented history of criminal activity, including four prior arrests for driving under the influence and one for unlawful possession of a firearm. He was also issued a final order of removal by a federal immigration judge. Despite being previously deported twice, he has re-entered the country illegally five times, a federal felony.
The Incident
During a surveillance operation, ICE officers observed Mendoza-Cervantes entering a vehicle with another Mexican illegal alien, Miguel Parra-Hernandez. When officers attempted a traffic stop, both men fled on foot. During the pursuit, Parra-Hernandez ran directly in front of an ICE vehicle and was struck, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.
ICE officers provided immediate medical aid and called for emergency medical services. Parra-Hernandez was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition. Mendoza-Cervantes remains at large, and authorities are urging the public to provide information through the ICE Tip Line or Online Tip Form.
Officials Link to Sanctuary Policies
ICE officials stated that the dangerous attempt to evade arrest is linked to recent efforts by Democratic sanctuary politicians, who have held webinars and provided resources to help individuals defy immigration enforcement. Officials highlighted examples of such activities, suggesting a coordinated effort to undermine federal operations.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities are actively seeking information about Mendoza-Cervantes’ whereabouts, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in apprehending fugitives. The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by immigration enforcement agencies in combating illegal entry and evasion of arrest.
