MS NOW has issued an apology after a false report claimed FBI Director Kash Patel had traveled to Russia for a meeting. The report, which appeared on the network’s morning show “State of Play,” sparked confusion when the FBI clarified that Patel was actually in Lynchburg, Virginia, attending a law enforcement appreciation event at Liberty University.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) disputed the report, citing two “sources familiar with the matter.” In a statement, the FBI criticized the network’s “sources” as being “familiar” with nothing, emphasizing that Patel was in Lynchburg, not Russia.

MS NOW justice and intelligence reporter Ken Dilanian addressed the error on air, stating, “We do know now that he has not already landed in Russia, as we reported earlier. We regret this error, and we are transparent about when we make errors.”

FBI Director Kash Patel himself voiced his frustration in a post on X, calling out the publication for its error. “MS NOW just reported I had ‘landed in Russia’ for meetings with the FSB. The same outlet constantly tells lies about this FBI and law enforcement’s historic achievements in safeguarding the American people,” he wrote.

Patel added, “They owe an apology to this FBI, the men and women of law enforcement, and to the American people.”

FBI Assistant Director Ben Williamson also called out the error on X, describing it as a “strange experience” to see reports placing the FBI director in Russia while simultaneously receiving photos of him in Lynchburg.

“I have had many strange experiences in life, but in tier 1 had to be seeing a clip of MS Now reporting breaking news that Kash Patel has ‘just landed in Russia’ – right as I’m receiving pics of Kash Patel doing a law enforcement appreciation event today in Lynchburg, Virginia.”
