A Georgia teenager allegedly strangled his mother during a grocery store parking lot confrontation before fleeing in her SUV, leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in a violent crash. The incident occurred on October 22 in Cartersville, 45 miles north of Atlanta.
Choking Incident and Escape
According to news reports, 19-year-old Elijah Jase Parker allegedly choked his mother, Laura Ann Moore, in her 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe while they were sitting in a Publix parking lot. Cartersville Police Captain Greg Sparacio told Fox 5 that Parker ‘just started choking her,’ causing his mother to fear she would lose consciousness.
Moore managed to escape his grip and fled to a nearby Five Guys restaurant for safety. She later told police she believed Parker would have killed her if he had succeeded in restraining her.
High-Speed Pursuit and Crash
Parker, who did not have a driver’s license, stole his mother’s car and fled the scene. Police were called to the incident and issued a vehicle alert. Two hours later, officers in Adairsville spotted the SUV and attempted to pull Parker over, which led to a high-speed pursuit reaching nearly 100 mph.
The chase crossed into Gordon County, where Parker made a high-speed turn, lost control, and collided with a stopped Kia Optima. The driver of the Kia was not seriously injured but required medical attention. Officers pulled Parker from the wreckage and arrested him.
Charges and Previous Arrest
Parker is now in custody at Bartow County jail, facing 12 charges, including aggravated assault by strangulation, felonious theft, and driving while unlicensed. He also faces charges of fleeing a police officer and false imprisonment, likely related to his mother.
Parker had previously been arrested in September on a misdemeanor charge of making terroristic threats but was released on his own recognizance. His mother claimed Parker had told her he would not go to prison and would shoot it out with police if stopped.
