U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro has confirmed that her office has initiated a separate investigation into the finances of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), following a recent home raid by Homeland Security Investigations agents. This probe, which is distinct from the immigration-related investigation currently being conducted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), focuses on Omar’s financial records and potential discrepancies in her net worth.
Pirro made the announcement during an interview with Fox News, where she addressed previous allegations about Omar’s financial status. She emphasized that her office is committed to examining the facts, regardless of political implications or agency involvement. “It doesn’t matter what the House does,” Pirro stated. “It doesn’t matter, you know, what this agency or that does. We’re looking at the facts. Based upon the facts, we’ll follow them wherever they take us.”
The financial inquiry into Omar’s finances was reportedly initiated by the Biden administration in January, following reports that she had amassed a multimillion-dollar net worth since entering Congress. The recent raid on her Washington, D.C., home has intensified public speculation about the nature of the investigation, with some reports suggesting that it may involve her birth date used for immigration purposes.
A new report from the New York Post revealed that Omar’s office had altered her official birth year in public records from 1981 to 1982 after she was elected to Congress. Pirro suggested that the evidence gathered by DOJ and DHS was strong enough to secure a search warrant from a Washington, D.C., judge, despite the timing being close to the midterm elections. “That judge would not have signed that warrant unless there was probable cause,” she said. “And probably more than that given the individual who’s involved.”
Pirro confirmed that multiple investigations are ongoing and that any potential crimes committed would be prosecuted. “There are several investigations going on, and I don’t think there’s any question, but if there was a crime that was committed, it will be prosecuted,” she added.
