Nine high school students in Florida have been arrested after allegedly beating a classmate who intervened to stop them from bullying a girl in the cafeteria, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. The incident, which has sparked widespread condemnation, involved a group of students physically assaulting their 17-year-old classmate, who sustained serious injuries requiring 11 stitches in his head.

Attack Was Nine Against One

The victim, who was 17, first stepped in to tell the bullies to stop pelting a girl with carrots. After an argument with some of the attackers, he left the cafeteria with the girl. Later, one of the bullies allegedly attacked him as he walked to his car, and eight others joined in, leading to a brutal beating. The incident was captured on video and shared by a local media outlet, showing the attackers egging each other on during the assault.

Authorities Call Attackers Cowards

Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Captain Kimberly Montes described the attack as a serious incident, labeling the accused attackers as cowards. She emphasized that the victim’s actions were courageous and called for the attackers to be tried as adults. “This was not one-on-one, two-on-one — this was nine students against one,” Montes said. “We tell kids all the time, ‘Stand up for somebody else!’ It takes a lot of courage to do that. He did this and these nine students that beat him up are the ones that are cowards.”

Charges and Legal Actions

Police identified nine alleged attackers in the video. Two of them, Quianelle Antonio Reyes-Cintron and Bryan Alexander Ramirez, were booked into the Osceola County Jail, while the remaining seven were taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center. Despite their ages, all nine were charged with felony aggravated battery and felony inciting a riot. The sheriff called for all nine to be tried as adults.

School District Condemns Violence

Mark Shanoff, the Osceola County School District superintendent, condemned the attack and reiterated that violence is not tolerated on or off campus. The incident has prompted calls for stronger measures to address bullying and protect students from such attacks.
